The Mac Operating System manages font size by using what it deems is the best resolution for font size viewing.
This often means it uses a lower resolution equivalent to get larger font sizes. Mac Operating System defaults many displays to 1920x1080 resolution, for example, even when the display is 4K. This can be overridden in Display Settings.
