That is a great question, and yes, a little bit of maintenance is required to keep our Pen Tablets, Quick Keys, and Pen working in perfect order and to keep them going for many years.
Let's take a look at what is needed.
Quick Keys:
What is needed: You will need your Quick Keys, a dry microfiber cloth, an aerosol disinfectant spray, or a similar non-corrosive product.
** Make sure to turn the Quick Keys off before you wipe it down.
Give the microfiber cloth a light spray. I give it one short burst. You want to avoid soaking the cloth. If it feels wet, then it is too wet to use.
You will want to wipe the OLED, Dial, and buttons off. Removing any dust or hand oil that may have been collected on them.
Turn the Quick Keys over and wipe the back of the Quick Keys off as well. As you use the Quick Keys, it will accumulate dust and particles from its travels on your desk and in your briefcase.
This is an after image of the back of the Quick Keys. Nice and clean and ready for use again.
And that is it for the needed maintenance with the Quick Keys.
You should do this once every two weeks to a month. |
Moving on to the Pen Tablet. The Small, Medium and Special Edition are handled the same:
What is needed: You will need your Pen Tablet, a dry microfiber cloth, and an aerosol spray of disinfectant or a similar non-corrosive product.
Make sure the Pen Tablet is turned off, give the microfiber cloth one spray of disinfectant and wipe the tablet surface off, removing any build-up dust or hand oil that might have accumulated on the Tablet surface.
And that is it for the Pen Tablet.
How often will you need to do this? That depends on how dusty your tablet gets and how oily your hands are.
A good rule to follow; if it looks like it needs to be cleaned, clean it. |
Pen Maintenance:
What is needed: You will need your Pen, a dry microfiber cloth, and an aerosol disinfectant spray or a similar non-corrosive product.
Give the microfiber cloth a light spray. I give it one short burst. You do not want to soak the cloth. If it feels wet, then it is too wet to use.
Gently rub the pen from the nib to the eraser removing any hand oil that might have accumulated on the pen.
While you are cleaning your pen, also check the nib for sharpness. The nib is designed to wear so that the surface of your Pen Tablet does not.
You need to be checking your nib once a week to see if the tip is developing a sharp point or chisel shape to it.
This is an easy test; run your index finger over the nib. If it feels sharp in any way, change it.
This is an example of a good nib. You will notice that nib has a nice conical shape at the end of it.
The nibs to the right are examples of nibs that have worn to a sharp point and need to be changed. ** These nibs can cause damage to the Tablet if they are continued to be used. |
