Photoshop Action Menu Item to button

I wish to start a photoshop action with a button on Quick Keys but find the following issue.

I'm on Mac OSX 14 M2 chip

keyboard pref is defaulted to using f keys as brightness, volume, spotlight etc.

Photoshop actions may be set to use a function key on Mac, adding Cmd and Shift as modifiers.

In photoshop, I set my action to initiate using a key command set, Cmd shift F4 which is physically actuated by fn Cmd shift F1, as you must click the Function key to have the F4 key work as function key rather than doing spotlight.

In key commands for the Xencel driver, there is no option for the fn or globe key... so I can't get it to work. Is there a workaround or could you add fn key to the Keystroke Add Special menu.

An observation which may or may not help, I have also tried holding the fn key on the keyboard while pressing the macro key on the quickkeys pad.

Thanks for the post. I know that selecting the F keys on a Mac is an issue within our Quick Keys. A couple of other people have asked for similar fixes.

I’m going to reach out to the drive team and see if they have made any headway toward getting this resolved.

David, I feel sure you have worked this out five months after starting this thread, but you can reverse the Fn key behaviour in System Settings > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > select the Function Keys tab on the side bar, and check Use F1, F2 etc. keys as standard function keys.  I am posting this on Windows 11, or I'd include a screenshot.

I have always thought the Function keys are wasted in Photoshop as their defaults are either redundant or irrelevant unless you are short on screen space.  Using them to trigger actions that let you perform a task with a single key click is much nicer idea than the defaults.

I am currently half way through a project using Logitech's new(ish) G515 gaming keyboard that allows us to remap every key.  I am using it in parallel with my Corsair K95 exclusively to trigger Photoshop shortcuts and actions with single keys.

I am currently waiting for a 16" Pen Display.  It was not until I made the shelf for the MacBook (Pro M1) that I realised I could accommodate the Pen Display, and I am excited as can be waiting to try it (when Amazon gets their finger out and delivers it :-( ).

Thanks for posting that and for including a work-around that is helpful.

OK, let's talk about your setup. That is nice! I have a Logitech G915 Lightspeed keyboard due to arrive tomorrow. I ordered with the Linear keys. How do you like yours, and do you have the Tactile, Lanear, or Clicky keys?

Mike I have been through a bunch of gaming keyboards starting with an early version of the Logitech G610 that had 12 G-keys.  This was back in the days of LGS which was a bit buggy.  That keyboard developed the key bounce issue that was apparently common to it, with frequent double or triple characters coming from one press of the key.  I next had a Razer Black Widow with their Synapse control software, that was nicer than LGS IMO, but that also developed issues (I can't remember what they were).  Next up was back to Logitech and their G910, but they had moved to G-Hub by then, which is way nicer than LGS.  I could hardly believe when that keyboard also started typing double characters. What the heck?!    I of course thought it was me, but Google tells us that it was again a common issue with no fix.

The Corsair K95 has been trouble free, and I have owned it long enough for the E and A keys to be unreadable, and I had no plans to replace it.  However, although I got the G515 specifically to remap for actions and shortcuts, it has easily the best typing experience I have come across, so now I am not sure.  I'll wait till the Pen Display arrives and I have worked it into my workflow, and maybe look at replacing my main keyboard.

BTW you can just about see my Medium Intuos 5 under the main keyboard in that image.  The keyboard slides back under the monitor when I use the tablet. I made a bracket to mount the G515 above the K95.

Keyboards have a way of sparking some real enthusiasm! My counterpart in customer care loves experimenting with different keyboards and has built up quite a collection. As for me, I’ve been using the Logitech MX Keys S and really enjoy it, though the "O" key has a bit of an odd feel when pressed.

I’m excited to share that the G915 Lightspeed is out for delivery today—can't wait to try it!

I’ve attached a picture of my current workspace. It works well for now, but I’m planning to build a longer desk this winter with slots for USB cables to keep things tidier. I’ll also be adding a Linux box under the left side, complete with a computer switch, so I can test and run Linux with more ease.

**For those reading this post, I really enjoy seeing how our customers set up their workspaces. I often share these images with our Product and Driver teams to help them connect more personally with our users. It’s a great reminder that our customers aren’t just an abstract concept—you’re the heart of our business.

I was about to say that the image of the mic on your right-hand screen has amazing depth — it almost looks real.  Then noticed the stand and realised that it is real.  I also love seeing other people's workspaces both physical and how they lay out their panels.  I love that Photoshop, for instance, allows us to save custom shortcuts, menus and toolbars with custom workspaces, so we can repurpose shortcuts according to context.  I switch between workspaces with actions triggered by function keys.  I spend several hours a day helping people on the Adobe forums (I Have been an Adobe Community Expert since 2009) and it is super satisfying tiding up the workspace after dragging out panels to make screenshots.

I have had a look at the G915 and it is interesting, but I'd need to think I was getting some advantage before spending NZ$475 on one.  I suspect I won't be able to resist for long though.  Everyone knows that 'He who dies with the most toys wins'.

I also do a lot of testing and going back and forth between Xencelabs devices. I'm still looking for the perfect setup to easily work with Windows, macOS, and Linux. I have a new Linux box arriving this week, and I'm going to hope to have it setup and working next weekend. I'll be testing a KVM switch with it so that I can switch from Windows to Linux with the push of a button.

So far I'm liking the G715 keyboard. I had ordered the G715 with the 10-key, and Logitech sent me the non-10-key G715. So I'm still sorting that out.

I would like to see other’s workspace setups -
